As part of this NHS initiative, our trained pharmacists can assess symptoms, provide expert advice, and offer treatment for a range of common health conditions, helping you get the care you need quickly and efficiently.

The Pharmacy First service provides fast and convenient access to professional healthcare without the need for a GP appointment. You’ll receive expert advice and consultations directly at Barnes Pharmacy, saving time and helping you avoid long GP waiting lists.

For eligible patients, the service is free, giving you effective care for common conditions at no cost.

The Pharmacy First service is available to anyone registered with an NHS GP in the UK. To receive free consultations under this scheme, you must meet NHS prescription charge exemption criteria. This includes:

  • Children

  • People over 60

  • Pregnant women

  • Individuals receiving certain benefits

If you do not qualify for an exemption, our pharmacists can still provide advice and treatment, though a small charge may apply for some consultations.

The Pharmacy First service allows community pharmacists to assess and treat a range of common conditions without the need to see a GP. These include:

For adults and children (where appropriate)

  • Acute otitis media (1 to 17 years)
  • Impetigo (1 year and over)
  • Infected insect bites (1 year and over)
  • Shingles (18 years and over)
  • Sinusitis (12 years and over)
  • Sore throat (5 years and over)
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (Women 16-64 years)

Pharmacists can provide clinical advice, reassurance, and NHS-funded treatment where suitable, including prescription-only medicines if required.
